FEATURES
The 2014 vintage for Produttori del Barbaresco's Barbaresco Riserva Ovello saw a cool and wet summer, but a crucial dry spell after August 12th allowed grapes to ripen under much improved conditions. Although quantities were down by 30%, the quality was high enough for Produttori to craft their esteemed cru Riservas. The latter part of the growing season was warm, contributing to the ripeness observed in the wine.
This wine displays a beautiful ruby red colour. The nose is rich and ripe with notes of red fruits, perfumed berry, rose petal, aromatic herbs, baking spice, black cherry, earth, and rose. On the palate, it is elegantly ethereal and medium-bodied, showcasing finesse and balance. Flavours of succulent red cherry, juicy raspberry, cinnamon, a dash of white pepper, and a black cherry core are prominent, supported by polished tannins and fresh acidity. Further complexity comes from hints of pine, mint, crushed rocks, sweet red plum, and balsamic aromas of menthol, wild thyme, and juniper. The structure is full-bodied and intense with youthful tannins, yet the wine already offers a broad and soft mouthfeel, with tannins that have been polished and integrated. 【 Loyally demonstrates the richness and textural softness this Ovello cru is known for 】
🍴 This Barbaresco is an excellent match for fresh egg pastas, risottos, white and red meats, venison, and a variety of cheeses. It also pairs wonderfully with hearty first courses, braised meats, and game dishes.
🥂 The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is already accessible, but it possesses significant ageing potential, expected to evolve well over the next several years or more, with some suggesting it will be best from 2022 through 2042. It is a wine that demands patience, promising to be terrific in another few years' time. When serving older vintages, remember that corks can be fragile; use a Durand opener if available. Decanting for an hour or two can help the wine open up and shed any sediment.
