FEATURES
The 2017 Henri Boillot Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a superb white Burgundy, lauded for its elegance, power, and purity. Henri Boillot, a third-generation winemaker, is known for his commitment to retaining vibrancy and energy in his wines by being among the first to pick on the Montrachet slopes and employing a mineral-driven, "understated" yet "explosive" style. The Bâtard-Montrachet vineyard, acquired by the domaine in 2011, straddles the border of Chassagne and Puligny, with vines running from the top to the bottom of the appellation. The 2017 vintage saw Henri Boillot produce a full lineup after missing several cuvées in 2016 due to frost and hail, making this a particularly welcome and highly-rated release.
Tasting notes describe a bright yellow hue with a lively and less exotic nose, offering aromas of ripe citrus, beeswax, dried flowers, hazelnut paste, fresh pear, white and yellow peach, tangerine, and spiced tea. On the palate, it is full-bodied, deep, and concentrated, with a broad-shouldered, layered core and plenty of chewy extract, yet maintaining a sense of elegance and purity. It is dense, tactile, and mineral-driven, displaying grand cru class with outstanding length and a bone-dry, impressively long, and youthfully austere finish. The wine is aged in 100% new 350-liter French oak barrels, contributing to its complex aromas and smooth texture.
🍴 Food Pairing: This complex and powerful white Burgundy pairs beautifully with rich poultry dishes like roasted chicken or turkey. It also complements seafood in creamy sauces, pan-seared scallops, or mature, firm cheeses.
