FEATURES
The 1977 Niepoort Vintage Port hails from a highly heralded vintage, eagerly anticipated after the excellent 1970 and outstanding 1963 vintages. Niepoort's Vintage Ports are renowned for their intensity, concentration, balance, and a certain "sexy" quality. Dirk Niepoort, who took the helm in 1987, is globally recognized for his exceptional Port wines. This 1977 vintage, now approaching its half-century mark, offers a complex and evolved profile. Expect a ravishing floral nose, leading to baking spices, fresh raspberries, cherry pie, and a complicating note of fennel. The palate reveals a medium red color, with balanced acidity and sweetness, dominated by figs and black cherries. Further tasting notes include dark fruit, prune, bramble, smoked tea, mint freshness, basil, licorice, chocolate, vanilla, oak, leather, honey, and a delightful spiced and honeyed fruit on the aftertaste.
This exquisite Vintage Port is a classic pairing for a variety of cheeses, especially Stilton, but also works beautifully with a caramel tart. For a more adventurous pairing, consider chevreuil sauce poivrade, canard à l'orange, or Beaufort cheese. It also complements chocolate, nuts, and dried fruits.
Ideal for a post-dinner indulgence, a significant celebration, or as a thoughtful gift for a discerning Port enthusiast. 【Highly heralded vintage with intense, concentrated, balanced, and sexy character】.
Serving Advice for this aged wine: Vintage Ports of this age will have significant sediment. Stand the bottle upright for at least 24-48 hours to allow all sediment to settle at the bottom. Decant carefully and slowly, ideally using a funnel with a fine mesh filter or cheesecloth, leaving the sediment behind. The cork may be very fragile; an Ah-So opener or a corkscrew designed for older wines is recommended. Serve at a cool room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Once decanted, the wine is best consumed within a few hours to appreciate its full complexity before it fades.
