FEATURES
The 2020 Burzi Barolo Capalot Vecchie Viti is a striking wine, produced only in the best vintages from one of the most important vineyards in the La Morra area, Capalot, where the oldest vines are almost 80 years old. This wine is a true gem, made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, with meticulous attention to detail including manual harvesting and extended maceration (35-50 days). It undergoes malolactic fermentation and refinement in large 30 HL Austrian oak casks for 24 months, followed by another 24 months in the bottle. The 2020 vintage is described as more open and giving than the 2021, with a ripe nose of cherry fruit, savory notes, and balsam. On the palate, it's suppler, lighter-framed, and less structured than the 2021, with licorice spice notes, elegance, and a nice inner-mouth perfume. It's approachable already, showing a 'puppy dog friendliness' while retaining a mineral water-like clarity. Tasting notes also highlight a perfumed and pretty nose with red-fruit driven style, bright red cherries, fresh herbs, spice notes, raspberries, lavender, lifted florals, crushed rocks, earth notes, wild flowers, and rose petals. It's full-bodied, deft, balanced, and elegant with silky, high tannins and crisp, high acidity, suggesting a wide open drinking window. 【A striking Barolo from 80-year-old vines, approachable yet age-worthy】.
Food pairing suggestions: This elegant Barolo is a fantastic match for traditional Piedmontese dishes such as truffle pasta, slow-braised beef (Brasato al Barolo), rich risottos, or aged Parmesan cheese. It also pairs well with roasted game birds or hearty stews.
Event suggestions: Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with Italian food lovers, a wine tasting focused on Barolo, or as a thoughtful gift for a connoisseur to cellar and enjoy over many years.
