FEATURES
The 2021 G.B. Burlotto Barolo Castelletto is from an exceptional vintage, with some experts comparing it to the highly regarded 2016 vintage. This year is described as "one for the ages," benefiting from snowfall that provided crucial water to the sandy slopes, resulting in healthy grapes with concentrated tannins and phenolic compounds, destined for extreme longevity. Burlotto, under winemaker Fabio Alessandria, is reclaiming its position as one of Piedmont's great small producers. Notably, Burlotto's Cru Barolos were not produced in the warmer 2022 vintage, making the 2021 Castelletto a particularly significant bottling. 【Exceptional, long-lived vintage from a rising star producer】
This Barolo is characterized by its linear and sharp focus, underlined by crushed limestone, violet, blood orange, and a hint of glossy latex, offering a brilliant and intense effect. It presents a fleshy structure with flavors of cherry, strawberry, rose, hay, iron, and wild thyme, supported by vivid acidity and malleable tannins that impart finesse. Expect superb harmony and length, with a fruity and savory mix on the aftertaste. Tasting notes also reveal bright and focused spiced notes of grenadine, anise, wet stones, and clove, with a vertical feel, compact, coiled tannins, and ripe acidity leading to a long finish. Aromas of rocks, soil, and lovely berry tones contribute to a rich attack and voluminous fruit, showcasing a very pure expression.
🍴 Given its powerful tannins and structure, the 2021 Barolo Castelletto is best paired with richer fatty foods or pork. Traditional Piedmontese dishes such as braised beef (Brasato al Barolo), truffle pasta, or aged hard cheeses would be ideal companions. Hearty stews and game meats would also be excellent choices.
🥂 This is a wine for serious collectors and special occasions, particularly those involving gourmet food. Its immense aging potential makes it a celebratory wine for future milestones, though it's advised to hold off on drinking it now or pair it with substantial, rich dishes.
