Alain Chabanon's L'Esprit de Font Caude 2016 is a flagship wine from a domain celebrated for producing fine, original wines with extraordinary aging potential, considered a jewel of the Languedoc appellation. The estate has been certified organic since 1992 and biodynamic since 2010, reflecting a deep respect for nature. This particular cuvée, L'Esprit de Font Caude, is the Domaine's oldest and is crafted from a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, and a touch of Grenache. The 2016 vintage was bottled in June 2019, unfined and unfiltered, promising a pure expression of its terroir.
This deep red wine offers a nose evocative of wild herb-covered hills, with robust aromas of ripe black fruits, spices, and a slight hint of aromatic herbs. Tasting notes reveal leather, undergrowth, red fruits, and licorice, showcasing a beautifully structured palate with well-balanced tannins. It bursts with blackberries, autumnal fruit, and spice, presenting a spicy, muscular profile with black fruits, earth, and a hint of spice. The integration between alcohol and tannins is superb, promising excellent aging potential, and it leaves a rich, slightly spicy aftertaste with remarkable persistence.
🥂 L'Esprit de Font Caude is a wine of great character, ideal for those who appreciate complex, full-bodied reds. It's perfect for a hearty winter meal, a gathering with friends, or any special occasion where a robust, gastronomic wine is desired. This wine benefits significantly from decanting at least 2 hours before serving at a temperature of 15-17°C (59-63°F).
