The 1994 vintage in Burgundy, while not exceptional overall, saw some good wines produced, particularly in the Côte de Nuits where Albert Bichot's Gevrey-Chambertin hails from. The summer was hot and dry, but heavy rains in September posed challenges, making careful grape selection crucial to avoid dilution and rot. Despite this, the red wines from 1994, especially from premier and grand cru vineyards on well-draining slopes, offered an attractive, fragrant style of fruit. Albert Bichot's Gevrey-Chambertin typically presents a beautiful ruby color with raspberry highlights. The nose combines scents of ripe red and black fruit (strawberry, raspberry) with notes of oak and spices, which can evolve towards animal notes like musk and fur with age. On the palate, it is described as rich, well-structured, full-bodied, silky, and balanced with bold yet classy tannins and a lovely long finish. 【Fragrant and well-structured Gevrey-Chambertin from a challenging vintage】.
🍴 Food Pairing: This Gevrey-Chambertin is an excellent companion for roasted or stewed meats such as beef, lamb, game (deer, venison), and poultry. It also pairs well with medium to mature cheeses.
🥂 Event Suggestions: A versatile red Burgundy suitable for a range of occasions, from a cozy dinner at home to a more formal gathering. Its elegant structure and evolving aromatics make it a thoughtful choice for a wine club tasting or a gift for a Burgundy enthusiast. Serve at 15-17°C (59-62°F). While the 1994 vintage is generally considered to be past its peak for many wines, a well-stored Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin from a good producer could still offer an enjoyable experience, showcasing the unique characteristics of an older, more evolved Burgundy.
