FEATURES
The 2020 Burgundy vintage is largely considered excellent, despite facing challenging conditions such as the COVID-19 pandemic and unusually high temperatures. Pierre Girardin, the son of Vincent Girardin, is an emerging and highly acclaimed winemaker in the Côte de Beaune, having established his own domaine in 2017. His winery is well-appointed with modern equipment, utilizing larger-format barrels, and he manages an impressive portfolio that includes both domaine vineyards and négociant purchases.
This Meursault 'Les Vireuils' 2020 is described as super explosive, mineral-driven, and slightly reductive. It offers notes of lemon oil, lemon curd, sweet spices, chalky minerality, some salty nuances, a touch of white blossoms, and almond. Medium-full bodied with notably high acidity, it boasts a long finish with excellent tension. Reviewers highlight its youthfulness and tightness, with a super tight and citrus-driven profile, mineral notes, and a hint of almond paste. It embodies a classic newer style of Meursault, being mineral and acid-driven with an energy that "sizzles on your tongue," and is expected to develop beautifully with age. It is also noted for being perfectly oaked and benefiting from a bit of air. Further tasting notes include honey, chalk, flint, various citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), oak, butter, chocolate, tree fruits (melon, peach, apricot), floral notes (acacia, elderflower), spices (mint, savory, white pepper), yeasty notes, tropical fruits (kiwi, pineapple), and brioche.
This superb village Meursault from an acclaimed young producer is excellent for enjoyment now with some decanting or can be cellared to gain further complexity. 【 Superb village Meursault from an acclaimed young producer 】.
