FEATURES
The 1990 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Vin de Paille is an astonishing sweet wine, made from 100% Marsanne grapes that were dried on straw mats for nearly two months before pressing. This vintage saw microscopic yields of just 9 hectoliters per hectare, resulting in only 225 cases of this nectar. It presents a deep golden yellow appearance with a nose of candied fruits and honey. On the palate, it is unctuous, unbelievably rich, fabulously perfumed, and honeyed, with an outstanding balance, concentration, and great length. Notes of orange, pineapple, peach, and floral aromas are also present. This wine is known for its incredible longevity and can be expected to age for 40-50 years. 【Extremely rare, concentrated, and long-aging sweet wine from microscopic yields】. Serving Advice: As a mature sweet wine from 1990, exercise caution when opening, as older corks can be fragile. Decanting is generally not required unless there's significant sediment, but allowing it to breathe for 30-60 minutes in the bottle after opening can help it express its full aromatic complexity. Serve slightly chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F), in a small dessert wine glass to appreciate its richness without overwhelming the palate. 🍴 Food Pairing: The Vin de Paille is often considered more a dessert in itself than a wine to be paired with desserts. However, it can be beautifully matched with fruit pies, especially those featuring apricots or citrus fruits, and other fruit-based desserts. 🥂 Event Suggestions: This rare and exquisite sweet wine is perfect for special celebrations, intimate gatherings, or as a contemplative wine to be enjoyed on its own at the end of a memorable meal. Its remarkable aging potential also makes it an ideal choice for milestone anniversaries or as a cherished addition to a serious wine collection.
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
