FEATURES
🏰 The 1995 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux is a superb second wine from a vintage widely recognized as excellent for Bordeaux, particularly the Left Bank. While some 1995 Bordeaux reds were noted for firm tannins and an austere character in their youth, the best examples, like Pavillon Rouge, have softened beautifully over time. This wine is described as forward, sexy, round, and generous, brimming with black fruit and a subtle hint of new oak. It offers the unmistakable Margaux bouquet, blending refined fruit, floral, and vinous aromas, with a palate of generous yet elegant black fruit and cassis flavors, supported by soft, ripe tannins and a long finish. The 1995 Pavillon Rouge has likely reached its peak but can continue to age gracefully for a few more years. 【 This vintage's Pavillon Rouge is considered one of the most delicious examples the property has ever made, with a concentration worthy of a first wine. 】 🍴 This mature Bordeaux red pairs beautifully with classic fine dining cuisine. Think roasted beef tenderloin, rack of lamb with herbs, or delicate game birds. Its elegance also complements mushroom-based dishes or a selection of aged, firm cheeses. 🥂 The 1995 Pavillon Rouge is ideal for a significant anniversary, a refined dinner party, or a special gathering of Bordeaux enthusiasts. As an older wine, it requires gentle handling. Older corks can be fragile, and there may be some sediment. It is advisable to decant the wine carefully about an hour before serving to allow its complex aromas to fully express themselves and to separate any sediment. However, be mindful that some older wines can fade quickly after decanting, so monitor its evolution.
BACKGROUND
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most famous wine estates, located just east of Margaux itself in the Médoc. Along with Lafite, Latour and Haut-Brion, it was rated as a first growth in the original 1855 Bordeaux Classification of the Médoc. There are also 12 hectares (30 acres) of Sauvignon Blanc to make Margaux's white offering, Pavillon Blanc, which must be sold as Bordeaux AOP, not Margaux. The red wines are fermented in a mix of traditional wooden and stainless steel vats; the grand vin sees between 18 and 26 months aging in new oak barrels.
