FEATURES
The Azores Wine Company's Pico Vinha Centenária is a truly unique wine, crafted from a vineyard over 100 years old on Pico Island, planted in rock cracks just meters from the Atlantic Ocean. These ungrafted vines, aged between 100-120 years, are organically farmed and primarily consist of Arinto dos Açores, complemented by Verdelho, Boal (Malvasia Fina), and Alicante Branco. This wine is a guardian of exclusive Azorean grape varietals and traditional vineyard composition, with only a limited number of bottles produced (e.g., 1333 bottles for the 2021 vintage). It has garnered significant critical acclaim, including 96 points from Revista de Vinhos and 95 points from Robert Parker.
This 2021 vintage displays a yellow citrus-straw color, offering intense aromas of iodine, salt, and linden. The palate delivers a concentrated, dense attack with persistent acidity, providing a distinct "slap of the sea" character with prominent saline and iodine notes. Tasters have also noted ripe lemons, apples, honey, and a fantastic intensity, drawing comparisons to a mature Chablis from a warm vintage. It boasts a great mouthfeel, power, and concentration, with a long finish of grilled lemons.
🍴 Born from the sea, this wine is an ideal partner for shellfish, iodine-rich fish, grilled fresh fish, and white meats. Its density and concentration also allow it to pair beautifully with richer dishes such as suckling pig or pork belly.
🥂 This rare and critically acclaimed wine is perfect for those seeking an extraordinary and distinctive white wine experience, especially seafood lovers or connoisseurs interested in volcanic, maritime terroirs. Its uniqueness makes it suitable for special occasions, a memorable gift, or as a conversation starter. It also offers excellent aging potential, up to 2035.
