Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a highly reputed producer in Burgundy, known for the astonishing quality and exceptional terroir expression of their wines. The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Clos de l'Orme 1er Cru is described as having beautifully fragrant red fruit with floral cherry notes. The palate showcases purity and elegance, flowing, balanced, fresh, and long, with ripe red fruit returning on the finish, described as 'crystalline'. Jasper Morris MW rated this vintage (89-91) points, noting a slightly darker crimson hue, expressive fruit on the nose, and a broader, softer palate. The domaine's vineyards are meticulously maintained, reflecting a philosophy that hard work in the vineyard is crucial for great wines. Demand for Cathiard's wines significantly outstrips supply each year. This wine is recommended for drinking from 2028-2033.
🍴 Food Pairing: This elegant red Burgundy would pair wonderfully with lighter game, roasted chicken, mushroom-based dishes, or delicate cheeses. General Pinot Noir pairings like duck, goose, and game birds are also suitable.
🥂 Event Suggestions: As a highly sought-after Premier Cru from a star producer, this wine is perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of fine Burgundy. It's an excellent choice for special celebrations, intimate dinners, or as an investment for future enjoyment, given its recommended drinking window.

BACKGROUND
Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a highly regarded family wine producer based in Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. Known for its sought-after, high-priced Pinot Noir wines, made from grapes sourced from First and Grand Cru vineyards in Vonn and surrounding appellations. The history of the winery begins with Sylvain’s grandfather, who started making wine in Burgundy in the 1930s. Later, descendants took over the winery and ran it until the 1980s. With approximately 5 hectares (12 acres) of vines, its most prestigious wines come from this Grand Cru vineyard, and its portfolio also includes several Grand Cru wines from Nuit-St-Georges and Vosne-Romanée.
