Henri Germain et Fils Meursault Rouge Clos des Mouches 2017 is a rare red Meursault, a monopole from a 0.5-hectare walled parcel planted in 1949 on clay-limestone just south of Santenots. It could legally be labeled Volnay, but Jean-François Germain bottles it as Meursault to honor the site. The Germain family, now in its third generation, is known for producing wines of phenomenal quality that are often stockpiled by collectors. The 2017 布根地 vintage was generally very good, with vines recovering from a difficult 2016 growing season. The estate practices organic farming, with everything in the vineyard performed by hand and yields kept low. Fermentation is spontaneous, typically with a portion of whole clusters, followed by 15–18 months of élevage in burgundy pièces with roughly 20% new oak.
This Pinot Noir offers a nose of macerated cherries and white truffles, followed by silky, lithe red fruit on the palate, with flavors of buttery lucques olives, vanilla-laced cherries, and sweet English thyme. Community tasting notes mention red berries, light, beautiful, and balanced effort. It's described as an excellent wine with finesse and elegance, starting to peak now. Other notes include blackberry, black cherry, chestnut, walnut, bell pepper, hay, prune, elderflower, and cheese. The 2022 vintage (similar style) is pure and finely textured—silken red cherry and wild berry with floral spice and a cool, limestone line—balanced, energetic, and classically Burgundian in its lift and finesse.
🍴 This red Meursault pairs well with duck, goose, and game birds. It also complements stinky cheese, roast white meats, fresh seafood, red sauce dishes, and meaty fish.
🥂 This elegant and refined red 布根地 is perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a romantic evening, or a special occasion where a nuanced and expressive red wine is desired. 【Rare Monopole red Meursault】
