FEATURES
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was marked by extreme heat, yet it proved more successful than the scorching 2003, thanks to a wet winter that allowed soils to retain water. While some areas, including Vosne-Romanée, experienced mildew pressure due to unsettled weather, dry and very hot conditions from mid-June through August were prevalent. Localized rains in August helped swell the grapes, leading to a surprisingly abundant harvest. Winemakers faced the critical decision of picking early to preserve acidity or waiting for phenolic ripeness, with reds generally achieving great success. Anne Gros, a highly respected winemaker in Burgundy, revitalized her family's Domaine in the late 1980s, converting vineyards to organic practices and expanding her holdings. The Les Barreaux vineyard, situated at a higher altitude, proved advantageous in the hot 2018 vintage. The wine's deep color is attributed to the iron-rich dark soil, and its inherent acidity ensures excellent aging potential. 【Exemplary expression of Vosne-Romanée terroir with excellent aging aptitude】 This wine is described as super fragrant, offering ripe dark berry and cherry notes, complemented by fleshy black plum, abundant violet, and a hint of sandalwood. It boasts a richly textured palate, full of energy, with lovely spice on a lingering finish. Expect dense ripe raspberries on the nose, a thick, dense purple color with pronounced glycerol legs, making a bold statement aromatically. Spiced red fruit aromas lead to a dense, pure, and focused mouthfeel with dark fruits, penetration, freshness, spices, and structure. Tasting notes also include red fruit (raspberry, strawberry), earthy nuances (mushroom, balsamic), black fruit (blueberry), oak (chocolate, vanilla), spices (eucalyptus, aniseed), and floral notes (perfume, dried rose, violet). Some critics noted it could be initially closed on the nose, with a medium-bodied palate, supple tannins, and fine acidity, though not always fanning out towards the finish. 🍴 An excellent accompaniment to game and meats in rich sauces, such as roasted duck, beef bourguignon, or venison stew. It also pairs wonderfully with mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses. 🥂 Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with discerning guests, or as a highlight in a vertical tasting of Anne Gros wines. Its structure and acidity make it a superb candidate for long-term cellaring.
