FEATURES
The 2005 vintage for 布根地 (Burgundy) was simply superb, with a warm, easy spring leading to an early budburst and flowering, followed by dry, hot conditions in June and July. Domaine François Mikulski's Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 2005 is a highly regarded wine from this excellent vintage. This particular Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes tends towards precision and tension rather than opulence. François Mikulski is known for preserving the unique character of the terroir by aging with only 20% new barrels.
Tasting notes describe a pungent nose of citrus, particularly lemon and grapefruit, merging into ripe peach, with racy, intense, and pure medium-weight plus flavors. It boasts excellent punch and a fine acid/fruit balance, well buffered by copious dry extract, all wrapped in a remarkably long and bone-dry finish. Other notes mention aromas of mimosa honey, Turkish Delight, flowers (carnation, lilac, violet), bergamot-nutmeg spice, and a mouthfeel of poached white fruits, grilled hazelnuts, and white chocolate, leading to a sappy, sensual, intense, and lengthy finish. It can also show a modern style nose with creamy, well-integrated new oak intertwined with green apple, limestone, and a touch of orange blossom, with a floral palate, touches of peach and Clementine, and a fine, crisp, long finish.
Food pairing suggestions include sole meunière, salmon with sorrel, scallops with leek fondue, veal sweetbread meunière with Champagne, farm-raised chicken from Vallée d'Auge, shellfish, pasta, rich fish (salmon, tuna, etc.), and mild and soft cheese.
