WINE REGION
France Burgundy Gevrey-Chambertin
FEATURES
The 2007 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Les Marchais is a captivating red Burgundy from a prestigious producer with a history dating back to 1825. Gevrey-Chambertin is celebrated for producing some of Burgundy's finest Pinot Noir, and this wine exemplifies the hallmark characteristics of its terroir. The 2007 vintage in Burgundy was generally a mixed bag for reds, with many showing freshness and bright forest fruit but sometimes lacking depth for long-term aging. However, some excellent wines, particularly Grand Crus, emerged from Gevrey-Chambertin. This particular bottling is described as firm, structured, big, and bold, bursting with black cherry, plum, and fig fruits, underpinned by a dry core of dark tannins. Expect aromas of rooty notes, tobacco leaf, florals, black cherry, smoke, licorice, and pepper. On the palate, it presents a round, dry, and elegant style with light tannins, offering flavors of sour cherry, smoky nuances, vanilla, tobacco leaf, pepper, licorice root, and a hint of meatiness. While it shows good intensity, some tasters note a slightly greener or more floral spice spectrum. 【 Exemplifies the hallmark characteristics of its prestigious Gevrey-Chambertin terroir, offering a firm, structured, and bold expression of Pinot Noir. 】 Given its age, this 2007 vintage is likely to be showing a beautiful evolution of tertiary aromas and a more delicate structure. Old corks and capsules can be fragile, so handle the bottle with care. We recommend standing the bottle upright for a day or two before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting for one to two hours before serving at 16-17°C (61-63°F) will help aerate the wine and soften its tannins, allowing its full bouquet to unfold. Food pairing suggestions: This classic red Burgundy is an ideal match for rich game birds like duck or goose. It also pairs beautifully with hare stew, venison, or mature cheeses. For a truly indulgent experience, consider roasted duck breast with figs, beef fillet with mushroom sauce, or a traditional coq au vin made with a similar style of Burgundy. Event suggestions: This wine is perfect for a special anniversary dinner, a sophisticated gathering with fellow wine enthusiasts, or as a thoughtful gift for a collector of fine Burgundy. Its evolved character makes it a wonderful choice for a contemplative evening.
