FEATURES
🏰The 2010 Chateau Leoville Poyferre is a legendary effort, widely considered the best wine the estate has ever produced, earning a perfect 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck and 98+ from Robert Parker. This "pure gold" Bordeaux is from a sunny vintage reminiscent of 2009 but with lower temperatures, resulting in 【remarkable balance, purity, and length】. It boasts a 【deep purple hue】 with phenomenal notes of 【crème de cassis, smoky tobacco, graphite, leather, and spring flowers】. The palate is 【full-bodied, opulent, and long, with wonderfully abundant yet sweet tannin, a skyscraper-like mid-palate, and a thrilling, nearly one-minute finish】. It's a wine of 【architectural strength and classical proportions】, with succulent ripe black fruit laced with spice box and white pepper. 🍴 This powerful and opulent Bordeaux is a magnificent partner for rich meat dishes. Ideal pairings include 【beef Wellington, roasted rack of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, or a classic duck confit】. It also complements 【truffle dishes and aged hard cheeses】 beautifully. 🥂 An exceptional choice for a grand celebration, a significant anniversary, or a serious wine tasting. This wine is built for the long haul, with an aging potential of 30 to 50 years, and is still youthful, just entering its early drinking plateau.
BACKGROUND
Château Léoville Poyferré is an estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Médoc. It was rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and was traditionally the softest of the three Léovilles. The 80-hectare (198-acre) vineyard is planted 65 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon with 25 percent Merlot, 8 percent Petit Verdot and 2 percent Cabernet Franc. The gravelly soils provide good drainage for the vines, which helps negate disease pressure and leads to concentrated fruit. In the winery, the grapes are cold-macerated for colour extract and aromatic purity, and fermented in stainless steel vats before aging. Château Léoville Poyferré is aged in oak barriques for 18 to 20 months, and the proportion of new oak has increases in the last few decades.
