🏰 The 2014 vintage in Bordeaux was characterized by a cool growing season, leading to wines with bright acidity and a classic profile. Les Forts de Latour is the esteemed second wine of the First Growth Château Latour, often considered to be of Third Growth quality in its own right. The 2014 Les Forts de Latour is a blend of 71.4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28.6% Merlot, primarily from young vines within the 'Enclos' vineyard and surrounding plots. It is aged in 50% new oak and typically has 13.5% ABV. This wine is described as having a deep garnet-purple color and a perfumed bouquet, almost Margaux-like in style, with wilted violet petals complementing fresh black cherries and graphite aromas. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a strong thread of pencil lead, crisp acidity, and firm, grainy tannins, finishing with a lingering ferrous note. It offers a core of pure cassis and blackberry fruit, with mouthwatering streaks of graphite and anise, and a racy edge. Critics praise its elegance, freshness, and impressive concentration, with some noting it's better than most estate grand vins. 【 James Suckling rated it 94 points, highlighting its glorious aromatics and super linear, structured, and long profile. 】
🍴 This classic Pauillac pairs exceptionally well with rich, savory dishes. Consider roasted lamb, prime rib, steak frites, or richly seasoned game. It also complements hard, aged cheeses and dishes with truffle elements.
🥂 Ideal for a significant dinner, a corporate event, or a gathering of wine enthusiasts. It's a wine that can be enjoyed now after decanting or cellared for further development, making it suitable for both immediate pleasure and long-term investment.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Latour is one of Bordeaux's wines and the world's most famous wine producers. It is situated in the southeast corner of the Pauillac commune on the border of Saint- Julien, in the Medoc region. Typically for the region, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates in the vineyard, accounting for around 80 percent of plantings. Merlot makes up most of the remainder, and there are also small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grand vin is only made from the vineyard plots surrounding the chateau and shown on the 1759 plan of the domaine. Latour makes two other wines: Les Forts de Latour and Pauillac de Latour, both of which are made from younger vines.
