FEATURES
The 2022 Arnaud Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Ma Cuvée hails from a Burgundy vintage that, despite being one of the hottest on record, saw a relatively cool summer that helped preserve acidity in the grapes. The best red wines from 2022 are characterized by elegance, weightless tannins, precise aromatics, and juicy fruit. Arnaud Mortet's "Ma Cuvée" is particularly notable as its vineyards, located in the south of Gevrey near Premier and Grand Crus, were spared from hail storms, allowing for a full and healthy crop. The producer has also been gradually reducing the level of new oak used, aiming for a purer expression of the fruit. 【From 70-year-old vines in Gevrey-Chambertin, offering charming red fruit and fine minerality】
This Gevrey-Chambertin Ma Cuvée bursts with aromas of sweet cherries, red berries, plums, and potpourri. It offers a medium to full-bodied, ample, and charming palate that is lively, fine-boned, and pure. Tasting notes highlight more red berry fruit on the nose, fine minerality, and transparency, with a medium-bodied palate, fine tannins, and greater depth and cohesion compared to the 2021 vintage, finishing with allspice and savory notes. Some describe it as having a crimson ruby color, a stricter nose, and more strawberry fruit, with charming red fruit and sufficient dry extract. Hints of strawberry, violet, and tobacco can also be found.
This classic red Burgundy is an excellent pairing for duck, goose, and various game birds. It also complements beef, veal, and poultry dishes beautifully.
The 2022 Arnaud Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Ma Cuvée is quite open and enjoyable already, though its winemaking is still evident. It is expected to age well and will likely enter its prime drinking window in about five years, at which point it should develop more complex sous bois (forest floor) notes. Its good depth and structure make it a promising wine for cellaring.
