🏰 The 1976 Port vintage was generally good, despite a challenging growing season with a dry winter and summer. While not a declared Vintage Port year, Colheita Ports from 1976 tended to be excellent, offering incredible intensity and complexity. Pocas Junior is a respected Port house. Colheita Port is a single-vintage Tawny Port, aged in oak barrels for a minimum of seven years before bottling. It has a vivid amber color with golden hues. The nose is enticing, mellow, remarkably complex, and laden with aromas of condensed milk, vanilla, and coffee. Other notes mention salted caramel, a leathery touch, and cedary flavors. On the palate, it is complex, unctuous, and shows good structure, with a wonderfully balanced and enduring finish. It can also have a juicy edge, keeping an energetic feel, with notes of Earl Grey tea, toffee, sesame, and salted caramel. Some describe nutty, butterscotch cookies dipped into orange marmalade. 【 Incredibly intense and complex Colheita Port from a challenging vintage 】
🍴 Excellent with caramel desserts, dried fruits, and spices, such as caramel fondant with apple and ginger jelly, tarte tatin, crème brûlée, and medium-strength cheeses. Chocolate and caramel are classic pairings. Aged Tawnies also combine well with chocolates that have a spicy or nutty component, foie gras, presunto (Portuguese cured ham), or Spanish jamon iberico.
🥂 A superb choice for a contemplative evening, a celebration of a significant anniversary, or as a luxurious digestif. It's a wine that tells a unique story, remembering historical events from its vintage year.
Serving Advice: This 1976 Colheita Port is a testament to time and craftsmanship. While fortified wines are generally robust, the cork can still be old and fragile, so use a suitable opener. Colheita Ports are already aged in cask and typically don't form heavy sediment, so decanting is usually not required unless a very fine sediment is present. Serve slightly chilled, between 12-16°C (54-61°F), to allow its complex array of aromas and flavors to fully express themselves. Store upright.
