🏰 The 2016 vintage for Brunello di Montalcino is widely regarded as one of the finest in recent memory, often described as a 'five-star' vintage. La Rasina's Brunello di Montalcino from this year would embody the exceptional qualities of the vintage: superb balance, depth, and aging potential. Expect a wine with a brilliant ruby red color, intense aromas of ripe red and black cherries, wild berries, and floral notes, complemented by hints of tobacco, leather, and earthy undertones from oak aging. The palate would be powerful yet elegant, with firm, well-integrated tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, complex finish that promises decades of evolution. 【A 'five-star' vintage Brunello, celebrated for its impeccable balance and profound longevity.】
🍴 This robust and complex Brunello di Montalcino is a dream pairing for hearty Tuscan cuisine. Think slow-braised beef, wild boar ragù with pappardelle, roasted lamb, or a classic Florentine steak. It also pairs beautifully with aged Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano-Reggiano. For an Eastern pairing, consider a rich Korean short rib stew or a deeply flavored Chinese red-braised pork.
🥂 Perfect for a grand dinner party, a significant anniversary, or as a cornerstone addition to a serious Italian wine collection. The 2016 Brunello is still relatively young and will benefit significantly from decanting for at least 1-2 hours before serving, allowing its complex aromas and flavors to fully unfold. It has immense aging potential, capable of developing gracefully for many decades.
BACKGROUND
La Rasina is a family-owned estate located on the eastern slopes of Montalcino in Tuscany. Founded in the 1970s by Santi Mantengoli, the winery is now run by his grandson, Marco. The estate transitioned to organic farming to better express the terroir of their vineyards, which benefit from excellent sun exposure and cooling breezes. Their Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso. It is aged in a mix of traditional large Slavonian oak casks and smaller French oak barriques. The resulting wine is a modern yet classic expression, offering rich aromas of ripe cherry, leather, and spice, with a powerful, structured palate.
