FEATURES
🏰The legendary 1999 Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port, a rare gem from ungrafted vines, defied a challenging Douro vintage to earn a perfect 20 points from Jancis Robinson, standing as a testament to its unparalleled terroir and quality. Despite 1999 being a difficult year for the Douro where most major port houses did not declare a classic vintage, Quinta do Noval released Nacional, highlighting its exceptional character and independence from general vintage conditions. This superconcentrated Port offers a brooding nose of black fruits, figs, dried violets, and smoky slate nuances. The palate is dense yet not heavy, with chewy, juicy notes of blackberries, blueberries, and chocolate, supported by integrated tannins and a long, dark, mineral finish.
🍴 This profound Vintage Port is a classic pairing for Stilton or other aged blue cheeses, as the salt reduces the sweetness. It also harmonizes beautifully with walnuts, dried figs, dark chocolate (70% or more), or a simple plate of aged hard cheeses.
🥂 An exceptional choice for post-dinner indulgence, celebrating special anniversaries, or for serious Port tastings. Serve at 16-18°C (61-64°F), slightly lower than room temperature. Decant for at least 2 hours before serving to bring out its full aromatic complexity and to separate any sediment. This 1999 Nacional is at an excellent drinking age and can easily be enjoyed now through 2040+. When opening older bottles, always handle the cork and capsule with care, as they can become fragile over time.
BACKGROUND
Quinta do Noval is one of the most legendary Port houses in the Douro Valley, dating back to 1715. The 'Nacional' Vintage Port is arguably the most famous and sought-after Port in the world. It is produced from a small, ungrafted parcel of old vines that survived the phylloxera epidemic, hence the name 'Nacional' (referring to the native Portuguese roots). Produced only in exceptional years, it is a wine of extraordinary concentration, complexity, and longevity, offering profound dark fruit, spice, and structural power.
