🏰 The 2007 vintage for E. Guigal Chateau d'Ampuis is noted for its approachable, rich, and sexy style. It was a tannic and muscular vintage, a result of a hot climate, with solid tannins beautifully rounded by 38 months of aging in new oak. The wine displays an elegant and approachable character overall. Expect a deep dark color with mauve tints. The nose is dense and intense, offering spices, black fruits, and delicate oak aromas. High-pitched notes of raspberry, cherry, and potpourri, with spice cake, also emerge. On the palate, it is tannic and racy, with flavors of prunes, blackberry, and vanilla. It presents a full-bodied, forward, and hedonistic style, with ripe black raspberry, cassis, toasted spice, dried violets, and cured meats. Layers of black raspberries are complemented by underlying minerality and a slight char. 【 Highly rated by critics, including 95 points from Wine Spectator and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 】.
🍴 This Côte-Rôtie pairs perfectly with braised beef, lamb, and a wide range of classic meaty dishes.
🥂 Ideal for a luxurious dinner, this wine is currently at its peak but possesses the structure to evolve gracefully for another decade.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
