Alex Moreau, Chassagne Montrachet La Maltroie 1er Cru, 2021
🏰 Domaine Alex Moreau, a natural progression of the esteemed Domaine Bernard Moreau, saw Alex assume full control in 2020, with the 2021 vintage marking the first release under his own label. He is quickly recognized as part of the new generation of talented winemakers in the Côte d'Or. The 2021 vintage in Burgundy presented some challenges, but Alex Moreau's Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie has been noted for its top-class winemaking. Expect a restrained nose of pear, mineral, green apple, and a touch of oak and brioche. The palate is smooth and sensuous, with green apple and lemon notes, showing great balance even in its youth. Other tasting notes suggest enticing aromas of pear, fresh mint, orange oil, and clear honey, leading to a medium to full-bodied, fleshy, and giving palate with a sweet core of fruit and a nutmeg-inflected finish. 【Alex Moreau is a talented new-generation winemaker continuing a storied family legacy.】
🍴 This elegant white Burgundy, with its rich fruit and mineral notes, is a superb match for pan-seared scallops with a butter sauce, roasted chicken with herbs, or a creamy mushroom risotto. For a more adventurous pairing, consider a delicate lobster thermidor or aged Comté cheese.
🥂 Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory meal, or as a thoughtful gift for a Burgundy enthusiast. Its youthful balance also makes it suitable for enjoying now, perhaps with a view to cellaring for a few more years to allow further complexity to develop.
