🏰The 2005 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape is hailed as one of the estate's strongest vintages since 1998, offering a "fabulous purity" and a finish lasting over 45 seconds. The 2005 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was exceptional, producing wines with power, complexity, and elegance. This wine is known for its ability to age gracefully, with top vintages developing over 15 to 25 years or more.
🍷 Dense ruby/purple-colored, it offers an exquisite perfume of 【black raspberries, kirsch, ground pepper, and incense】. The full-bodied palate reveals 【black cherries with layers of forest floor, spice, and earth】, with lively acidity and good balance. With age, it takes on flavors of 【incense, meat, figs, plums, and amazingly truffles】.
🍴 This Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a gastronomic wine, perfect with classic meat dishes like braised lamb shanks, Provençal beef daube, grilled rib-eye steak, herb-crusted rack of lamb, and aged cheeses like Comté. It also pairs well with Asian dishes and hearty fish courses.
🥂 An excellent choice for a grand dinner, a special family gathering, or a serious wine tasting. It's a wine that demands attention and rewards patience.
*Serving Older Wine Note*: This wine is in a great place right now and should have another five to seven years at this level. Young vintages can be decanted for 2-3 hours, but older vintages might need very little decanting, just enough to remove sediment. Serve at 15.5°C (60°F) for optimal freshness and lift.
BACKGROUND
The old telegraph factory (Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe) is located in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape area of the southern Rhône region. Vieux Télégraphe has been owned by the Brunier family for over 100 years and is one of the most renowned producers in the region. Most of its vineyards are planted with red grape varieties, of which Grenache is the most important grape variety in the region, but a small proportion of white wine is also used to produce Chateauneuf-du-Pape white wine. The best fruit comes from the La Crau plateau, which is higher than many other vineyards in the region and famous for its pudding stone, which makes up 70% of the soil composition and can reach a depth of 5 meters (16 feet).
