🏰 The 1995 Mugneret-Gibourg Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is a mature Burgundy red wine that, while good, may not be considered a truly great offering from the domaine. The 1995 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered a good year, producing wines with solid structure and aging potential, though some found them a bit stern in their youth. This particular wine's nose is now more mature, revealing wild strawberry, leather, and black truffle notes that develop with aeration. The palate, which was once characterized by chunky tannins, has softened over the years, showing a slightly minty entry. While it may lack the density and harmony of a truly great Clos de Vougeot, it is not expected to decline rapidly. 【A mature Burgundy Grand Cru offering developed aromas of wild strawberry, leather, and black truffle】. The wines from Mugneret-Gibourg are known for their grace, breed, and complexity, expressing the nuances of their crus with digital definition.
Serving Advice for Older Vintages: This 1995 vintage is well into its maturity. Handle the bottle with care, keeping it upright for a few days before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Old corks can be fragile, so use a Durand opener or a two-pronged cork puller. Decanting is recommended for about 30-60 minutes to allow the wine to breathe and any remaining sediment to be separated, but be mindful not to over-decant very old wines as their delicate aromas can dissipate quickly. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 This mature Clos de Vougeot would pair beautifully with classic Burgundian dishes. Think roasted fowl like duck or guinea fowl, mushroom-based dishes, or delicate game birds. Its earthy and savory notes would also complement dishes with truffles or aged Comté cheese. Avoid overly rich or spicy foods that might overpower its delicate, evolved flavors.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a contemplative tasting among connoisseurs or a special anniversary dinner. It's a wine to be savored for its historical context and the subtle complexities that only time can bring. It would be a thoughtful gift for a Burgundy lover who appreciates the nuances of aged Pinot Noir.
