🏰 The 2005 vintage for Red 布根地 is widely celebrated as truly great, with some critics hailing it as "probably the best Red 布根地 vintage of my working lifetime." It was a "hands-off" vintage, characterized by remarkably healthy grapes, excellent sugar and acidity evolution, and ripe tannins. The wines are known for their rich, ripe fruit flavors, firm tannins, and balancing acidity, ensuring graceful aging. However, some wines from this vintage were noted for being big, intense, and rather heavily extracted.
This wine displays a deep garnet color. The nose offers ripe plum and morello cherry, layered with earthy, almost sauvage notes, rosemary, lavender, cinnamon, rose, wet stone, and a faint hint of toast. Some notes also mention a lot of spices and black fruit. On the palate, it is velvety and mouth-caressing, with a rich, concentrated core of sour cherry and dark plum. It reveals genuine minerality alongside herbal and spice accents, with refined tannins providing structure. It can be rich and intense, with a long, very dry finish. Some found it powerful and opulent with highly concentrated dark fruit, balanced acidity, and a fine minerality finish. The finish is long and balanced, with a distinctive bitter cherry-pit inflection and lingering earth, subtle coffee, and fine spice.
【From the "magical" 2005 vintage, considered one of 布根地's greatest red vintages, offering sumptuous and velvety palate impressions with brilliant purity and focus.】 Philippe Leclerc is renowned for producing muscular, concentrated Pinot Noirs built for aging, employing a deliberately old-school approach that includes cold maceration and foot-treading. Les Cazetiers is a prestigious Premier Cru vineyard on Gevrey-Chambertin's famed "Golden Slope."
🥂 An excellent choice for a serious 布根地 tasting, a celebratory dinner, or for cellaring to allow further integration of its firm tannins. It's a wine built for the table and rewards patient, attentive tasting.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions include Coq au Vin, roast duck breast with black cherry reduction, and aged Époisses or Comté cheese. It also pairs well with duck, goose, and other game birds. Roast boar is another excellent option.
