Anne Gros, Echezeaux Les Loachausses Grand Cru, 2018
🏰The 2018 Anne Gros Echezeaux Les Loachausses Grand Cru is a highly acclaimed Burgundy Pinot Noir, praised for its elegance and purity. This vintage, brought up in one-third new French oak, reveals a medium ruby hue and an incredibly elegant bouquet of black cherries, raspberries, spice, dried flowers, mulberries, and forest floor. It offers beautiful purity, a silky texture, light tannins, and a great finish, making it an ethereal and seamless wine. Critics note its alluring perfumed aromatic start and its concentration and power. The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was generally warm, leading to ripe fruit, but Anne Gros's expertise ensures balance and finesse.
🍴This versatile Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with game birds and poultry like duck breast, roasted lamb, or herb-crusted red meats, where its fruit and acidity can cut through richness. Earthy dishes such as wild mushroom risotto or truffle-infused pasta also make superb choices, echoing the wine's subtle forest-floor notes. For a simpler pairing, consider aged local French cheeses or charcuterie.
🥂This Grand Cru Burgundy is perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a special celebration, especially when paired with fine dining. It's a wine that inspires a cult-like following among global collectors due to Anne Gros's expert touch, offering richer aromatics, rounder curves, and silkier tannins. While enjoyable in its youth, it is fundamentally built to age and will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age, keeping for 15-20 years.
