FEATURES
🏰A monumental expression of Rhone terroir, the 2012 Clos Saint-Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus Ex Machina is a glowing testament to profound character, fusing elegance and audacity in an exceptional vintage. The 2012 growing season in the Rhone Valley was marked by perfect climatic conditions, with significant diurnal temperature variation, moderate daytime heat, cool nights, and scarce rainfall, ensuring optimal ripeness while preserving essential acidity. This powerful red is a blend of 60% Grenache from nearly 100-year-old vines and 40% Mourvedre, aged in foudre/tank and demi-muids respectively. It pours a deep ruby/purple color. The nose offers incredible notes of cassis, roasted meats, licorice, toasted spice, and a liquid rock-like minerality, alongside tiers of fig, blackberry, black currant, and plum fruit supported by baker's chocolate, maduro tobacco, pepper, bay, and roasted alder notes. Full-bodied, massive, and concentrated, yet seamless and incredibly polished, the palate delivers dark berry and currant fruit, graphite, ground pepper, and dusty earth, with building, firm tannins and a long, intense finish.
🍴 This robust Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an ideal match for hearty dishes such as roasted lamb, beef stew, game meats, and strong cheeses. Dishes with rich fats and aromatic herbs are particularly recommended.
