FEATURES
🏰The 2011 Gourt de Mautens Rasteau, from a producer known for crafting wines with a unique set of rules, offers a stunning blend of forgotten grape varieties from biodynamic soils of marl, clay, and limestone. This vintage, previously labeled as AOC Rasteau and now as IGP Vaucluse, presents a deep, almost opaque color. On the nose, expect a rustic charm with notes of 【smoked meat, herbs, blackberry, and earth】, leading to a palate of ripe, almost overripe, medium red fruit flavors. It boasts a powerful depth with a surprising touch of minerality, licorice, leather, and a hint of meatiness, all supported by central tannins and balanced acidity.
🍴 For a delightful pairing, consider rich, elegant Western dishes like slow-braised beef short ribs or succulent lamb tagine. For an Eastern touch, it beautifully complements Cantonese-style braised beef brisket with daikon or a hearty claypot rice with preserved meats.
🥂 This wine is perfect for a special dinner, a gathering with fellow wine enthusiasts, or a cozy evening with comfort food. It's a wine that rewards contemplation and pairs wonderfully with robust, flavorful meals.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Gourt de Mautens currently spans 13 hectares. The owner, Jérôme Bressy, began making wine from his father's vineyards in 1996 and 1997, establishing his own estate in 1998. A significant factor contributing to the quality of Bressy's wines is the age of the vines, with some reaching up to 90 years old. The estate produces a range of wines, including rare Rasteau village-level red and white wines. The red is dominated by 70% Grenache, complemented by 30% Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Counoise, Muscardin, and Vaccarèse. The white consists of 45% Grenache Blanc, 45% Bourboulenc, and a blend of other minor varieties.
