🏰 The 2006 Cantina del Pino Barbaresco Ovello is a 【charismatic and stunning wine】, praised for its fleshy-ripe cherry and mixed spices. From the renowned Ovello vineyard, known for its elegance and intensity derived from its S/SW exposure and limestone-sandy soil, this Nebbiolo is crafted from vines averaging 70 years old. The wine undergoes 24 months of oak aging followed by 18 months in bottle. The 2006 vintage is described as gentler and more ethereal compared to its 2007 counterpart. It displays a medium garnet color with hints of orange and clearing at the edges, evolving into an intense ruby red. The full, fragrant nose offers ripe fruit aromas, menthol, candied plums, tar, rose petals, pomegranate, prune, forest fruits, mint, pine resin, mountain herbs, and smoke. On the palate, it is medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well-balanced, smooth-textured red fruit flavors like red cherries, strawberries, and tart cranberries, complemented by dried herbs, minerals, earthy notes, truffles, spices, and oak. It boasts an elegant flavor with good, soft, silky tannins, balanced by fresh acidity and an intriguing balsamic scent, leading to a dry, full-bodied, and long lingering finish.
🍴 This Barbaresco is an excellent companion for robust dishes such as beef, game, and stews (beefsteak, lamb, veal, rabbit, wild boar, deer). It also pairs wonderfully with white truffle, wild poultry, and strong-flavored cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano, aged Gouda, or Cheddar.
🥂 Ideal for both convivial gatherings and more reflective occasions. While it drinks quite well with decanting and extended airing, this wine possesses significant potential for further aging, capable of retaining its characteristics for up to 20 years. Serve between 18-20°C (64-68°F), and a short decant will enhance its aromatic profile.
