Jean Jacques Confuron, Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru, 2021
🏰 The 2021 Burgundy vintage was a challenging year marked by severe April frosts and mildew, resulting in small quantities. However, it's a return to a more classic style, offering fresher, lighter wines characterized by elegance and refinement. This Jean-Jacques Confuron Romanée Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is a 【masterpiece of finesse and purity, revealing red currant, raspberry, and floral notes, framed by a delicate mineral core】. It is silky and understated, with vibrant acidity and fine tannins leading to a lifted, graceful finish. Expect an intense black plum, blackcurrant, and fresh strawberry-scented bouquet with a subtle marine influence. The palate, though showing a lot of oak on entry, has plenty of fruit to absorb it, presenting a dense, almost opaque, modern style with persistence and salinity on the finish.
🍴 This exquisite Grand Cru pairs wonderfully with duck dishes (seared duck breast with cherry reduction, Peking duck), lamb entrées (herb-crusted rack of lamb), and earthy vegetarian options like wild mushroom risotto. It also complements a cheese board with aged cheddar and creamy brie, and is assured to provide a gourmet experience with beef Wellington.
🥂 This wine requires 8-10 years of aging to fully integrate its oak and is best enjoyed after ten years of cellaring, with the potential to age for two or three decades. It's a truly beguiling vintage for Burgundy lovers seeking a classic, elegant expression. Serve at a cellar temperature of 14-16°C (57-61°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgund, France. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites.
