🏰 The 1998 vintage in Bordeaux was generally good, though often considered more successful on the Right Bank. However, Château Calon Ségur from Saint-Estèphe produced a classically-styled wine, moderately tannic with good weight, which has proven to be investment-worthy. The 1998 Calon-Ségur is deep garnet-purple with a touch of brick, offering an earthy/meaty nose with notes of new leather, smoked game, truffles, dusty soil, iron ore, and mossy bark, layered over crème de cassis, preserved plums, spice cake, and unsmoked cigars. The palate is medium-bodied with spicy and earthy layers, velvety tannins, seamless freshness, and great length. It's a masculine, Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine with fine, subtle ripe black fruits, showing excellent balance and complexity. 【A classically-styled, investment-worthy Bordeaux from a well-regarded vintage】
🍴 This mature Bordeaux pairs wonderfully with classic meat dishes such as grilled lamb chops, veal, beef, duck, and game. It also complements Asian dishes, hearty fish like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and a variety of cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a special dinner, a gathering of Bordeaux lovers, or a contemplative evening to appreciate an aged claret. It's drinking beautifully now but still has years ahead.
