🏰Thierry Allemand's Cornas Reynard 2001 is a 【legendary Northern Rhône Syrah】, celebrated for its intense character and remarkable aging potential. While specific vintage reports for 2001 Cornas are not detailed, this vintage is often remembered for producing wines with freshness and superior tannins. Expect a wine that has evolved beautifully, offering a complex bouquet of 【dark berries, black olive, smoked meat, and a pronounced peppery spice, with tertiary notes of leather and forest floor beginning to emerge】. The palate will be powerful yet refined, with integrated tannins and a long, savory finish.
🍴 This mature Cornas demands hearty and flavorful dishes. It's an excellent match for grilled or roasted lamb, especially with garlic and rosemary, or rich beef stews. Game meats like venison or wild boar ragu would also be superb. Consider pairing it with dishes featuring black olives, earthy mushrooms, or a touch of smoked paprika to complement its savory depth.
🥂 This is a wine for a truly special occasion, a gathering of serious Syrah enthusiasts, or a contemplative evening to appreciate a perfectly aged Northern Rhône masterpiece. Given its age, expect the cork and capsule to be fragile. Decanting for 1-2 hours is highly recommended to allow the wine to breathe and to separate any sediment, serving at 17-19°C (62-66°F).
BACKGROUND
Thierry Allemand is a leading producer of wines from the Syrah grape in the Cornas region of the Northern Rhone Valley. Renowned for their varietal expression and velvety texture, the wines have a loyal following and the estate was formed by Alleman starting in the 1980s by purchasing large areas of small abandoned land. Less than 5 hectares (12 acres) in size. Only 500 cases of the top Les Chaillots and Reynard cuvées are available, always in short supply.
