🏰An exceptional 1988 Burgundy Grand Cru, this Robert Gibourg Corton Bressandes showcases the vintage's renowned structure and elegance, now beautifully integrated after decades. The 1988 Burgundy vintage was excellent, particularly for reds, marked by a warm, dry spring and a fine September, yielding deeply colored, well-structured wines with prominent tannins that have since mellowed into harmony. Expect a fully mature wine with aromas of red apple, Christmas cake spice, and a hint of molasses, evolving on the palate with dried apple notes and still-present grippy tannins that provide support. Some bottles are in remarkable condition, drinking much younger than their age suggests, revealing complex perfumes of dark cherry, strawberry, raspberry, kirsch, and a rocky minerality.
🍴 This opulent Corton pairs exquisitely with strongly-flavoured meats like roasted or grilled beef, gamebirds, and braised game. It also complements fine cheeses beautifully.
🥂 Perfect for a milestone anniversary dinner or a sophisticated gathering of Burgundy connoisseurs. This wine is a true conversation starter, offering a glimpse into a celebrated past vintage.
Given its age, expect potential sediment and handle with care. Decant gently to separate the wine from any deposits, and serve slightly below room temperature (15-16°C) to allow its complex aromas to unfold beautifully. A good corkscrew for older bottles is highly recommended.
