🏰The 1989 Rayas Chateau de Fonsalette Reserve is a 【legendary vintage from an iconic Rhone producer】, known for its profound complexity and ethereal elegance. While specific detailed notes for this exact vintage are scarce, Fonsalette Reserve, particularly from older vintages, is celebrated for its aromatic intensity, often revealing notes of kirsch, garrigue, leather, spice, and truffle, with a silky texture and remarkable length. The 1989 vintage in the Southern Rhone was generally excellent, producing wines with good concentration and aging potential.
🍴 This mature and complex wine calls for refined pairings. Think slow-roasted lamb, duck confit, or game birds like pheasant. For a luxurious Cantonese pairing, consider braised goose web with abalone sauce or a rich claypot chicken.
🥂 An extraordinary wine for a milestone anniversary, a very special birthday, or a private tasting among serious collectors. This wine is a testament to the magic of aged Rhone. Please be mindful of the cork and capsule condition when opening older vintages.
BACKGROUND
Château Rayas is a leading producer in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the Rhône Valley, France. It is one of the region's most prestigious estates, and its wines fetch some of the highest prices in southern France. The estate covers 22 hectares, with 15 hectares dedicated to vineyards. Most of their vines are planted to Grenache. The estate's red wine is made solely from Grenache. The château's white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is generally made from Grenache Blanc and Clairette in roughly equaly proportions. Château Rayas has been in the Reynaud family since the 1880s.
