【Ranked #11 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2017, this Brunello di Montalcino celebrates Altesino's 40th harvest with classic Sangiovese elegance.】 The 2012 vintage marks Altesino's 40th harvest, inscribed with "our 40th Harvest" on its front label. This hot vintage produced slightly bolder and more opulent dark fruit aromas. It presents a brilliant ruby red color, tending towards garnet with age. The bouquet is broad, ethereal, and complex, with hints of violet, wild berries, vanilla, blue flower, baking spice, and a whiff of new leather. The palate is sleek and elegant, doling out juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon, and star anise, framed by lithe, polished tannins and fresh acidity. Expect cherry, leather, and iron notes, with a subtle and fresh plum and dark-chocolate character. Black cherry, plum, and crème de cassis converge with grilled herb, forest floor, licorice, and exotic spice. The finish offers moderate acidity and is long and silky.
