FEATURES
🏰 The 1989 Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Célestins is considered by Henri Bonneau himself to be 【among the top two or three wines he has ever produced】. It is a profound bottle, showcasing intensity, breed, and finesse found only in the greatest wines of the last fifty years. The 1989 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was excellent, producing powerful and tannic wines, often more backward than the 1990, and built for long-term aging. Henri Bonneau's Réserve des Célestins is typically sourced from the boulder-strewn plateau of La Crau, known for producing Châteauneuf's ripest fruit. By 2021, older vintages of Henri Bonneau wines had exploded in price, becoming the second most expensive in the appellation after Rayas, highlighting their rarity and desirability. This wine, now over three decades old, is a testament to the longevity of great Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Expect a deep and brilliantly profound bouquet with purity and complexity, soaring with black cherries, gravelly soil tones, heather, balsam boughs, gamebirds, orange zest, woodsmoke, and a potpourri of Châteauneuf spice tones. On the palate, it is full-bodied, strikingly pure, and firmly grounded in stony soil, with a rock-solid core of pristine fruit, ripe, well-integrated tannins, bright, tangy acidity, and stunning length and grip. As it approaches its fortieth birthday, it has developed tertiary layers of complexity and is drinking beautifully, with many more years to go. Serving Advice for this aged wine: Given its age, this wine should be handled with care. The cork may be fragile, so use a Durand opener or a two-pronged cork puller. Decanting is highly recommended for 1-3 hours to allow the wine to breathe and shed any sediment, but monitor it closely as very old wines can fade quickly. Serve at a cellar temperature of around 16-18°C (60-64°F) in large Burgundy glasses to appreciate its complex aromatics. 🍴 This magnificent, aged Châteauneuf-du-Pape pairs exceptionally well with rich, savory dishes. Think slow-cooked lamb shoulder, roasted venison with a reduction sauce, truffle-infused dishes, or mature hard cheeses. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly momentous occasion, such as a significant anniversary, a milestone birthday, or a gathering of serious wine connoisseurs. Its historical significance and exceptional aging potential make it a centerpiece for any grand celebration.
