Rodolphe Demougeot, Auxey Duresses Les Clous, 2021
🏰news | features + short tasting note IN ENGLISH
【A superb white Burgundy from the challenging yet rewarding 2021 vintage, Rodolphe Demougeot's Auxey-Duresses Les Clous offers remarkable concentration and piercing acidity.】 The 2021 Burgundy vintage was extremely challenging due to April frost and high disease pressure, leading to drastically reduced yields (50-80% down). However, the white wines from this vintage are superb, showing concentration, high acidity, minerality, and cooler fruit tones. The small crop had a long season to ripen, developing intense concentration while retaining amazing freshness and acidity. Wines of substance and depth from 2021 will reward aging for at least a decade. This Auxey-Duresses Les Clous, a white wine, typically presents a pale straw color with crystal clarity, aromas of fresh almond and apple, often with biscuity and mineral (gunflint) notes. Expect a vibrant and pure palate with cool, white-fleshed fruit character, a saline thread, and piercing acidity.

This lively white Burgundy pairs wonderfully with prawns and fish in spicy sauces, cooked shellfish, or ratatouille. It's also excellent with cheeses from the Gruyere family, blue cheeses, or certain types of goat's cheese. Consider pairing it with steamed fish with ginger and scallions or a creamy chicken dish.
