Jean Jacques Confuron, Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru, 2013
🏰 The 2013 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru from Jean-Jacques Confuron is a wine of notable elegance and complexity, showcasing the perfumed refinement typical of this grand cru. The vintage itself was described as fascinating and challenging, yet Confuron's expression is dense with finesse and length, embodying the sensuality and spice of Romanée-Saint-Vivant. It's often referred to as the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove. This particular vintage saw 90% new oak and 25% whole-bunch fruit, contributing to an intense black plum, blackcurrant, and fresh strawberry-scented bouquet with a subtle marine influence. While showing a lot of oak on the entry, there's ample fruit to absorb it, suggesting it will benefit from 8-10 years of aging. Critics have noted its deep ruby-red color and aromas of black raspberry, bitter cherry, menthol, and mint. The palate is dense, unevolved, and still brooding, indicating a wine built for the long haul. 【Sensual and enchanting Grand Cru with significant aging potential】.
🍴 This powerful yet charming red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes such as roasted lamb, duck, or game. Its complex aromatic profile also makes it a good match for truffle-infused dishes or aged hard cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a significant anniversary celebration or a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs who appreciate the evolution of fine Burgundy. It's a wine that demands attention and contemplation, perfect for a quiet evening or a small, intimate gathering where the wine can be the star.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgund, France. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites.
