🏰 The 2019 vintage for Domaine Hubert Lamy's Saint Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru was a warm, sunny year, though an April frost reduced yields. Favorable summer conditions ensured optimal grape ripening while preserving natural acidity, thanks to the vineyard's cool exposure, resulting in balanced wines with ripe fruit and mineral tension. This particular parcel, with its 65-year-old vines and stony clay-limestone soils, is known for producing wines of incredible concentration and breadth, yet maintaining a steadfastly citrus profile. 【 Dazzling minerality and great complexity, praised for its 'Riesling-like' structure 】
This wine displays a luminous pale golden-yellow hue. The nose reveals aromas of lemon and grapefruit, delicate floral notes, evolving with aeration to white peach, fresh almond, quince, crystallized ginger, and subtle toasted almond. On the palate, it charms with a remarkable balance of vibrant acidity and generous texture, where citrus flavors intertwine with white peach and apricot. A saline, iodine-tinged minerality brings tension and freshness, leading to an impressively long finish. Jancis Robinson even praised its 'Riesling-like in construction (high praise!)'.
🍴 This Saint-Aubin 1er Cru is a perfect partner for seafood and shellfish, such as oysters, lobster, or langoustines. It also matches well with firm-fleshed fish like turbot or sole, especially with a butter sauce, or roasted white poultry and mushroom-based dishes. For a lighter option, consider a fresh asparagus salad with lemon vinaigrette.
🥂 Ideally enjoyed at 11-12°C, with about an hour of decanting to fully reveal its aromatic complexity. This wine is suitable for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory lunch, or a special occasion. It can be enjoyed until around 2035, or even beyond under optimal cellaring conditions, making it a great choice for those who appreciate the evolution of fine Burgundy.
