De La Vieille Julienne, Chateauneuf Du Pape Cuvee Reserve, 2000
🏰 The 2000 Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintage was inserted in a series of four excellent years, presenting all the qualities of a wine of great guard in its youth. The reds offered intense aromas of fresh red and black berries, spicy and finely peppery notes, and a very long finish, ideally balanced between freshness and dense yet silky, supple tannins. The vintage was marked by excellent growing conditions and harvest, with healthy yields and radiant sunshine. De La Vieille Julienne's Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Reserve 2000, from a terroir with sandy soils in the northern part of the appellation, is expected to showcase a complex and expressive nose of red fruits and prune in brandy, underlined by aromas of undergrowth and weathered leather. The entry on the palate is surprisingly fresh and soft, with caressing tannins supporting beautiful notes of candied fruits, fruits in brandy, gamey aromas, and fine spices. The persistence remains fresh and long, sustaining the tasting for many minutes. 【The 2000 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Reserve is a beautifully mature wine from an excellent vintage, offering complex aromatics and a surprisingly fresh palate.】
This 2000 vintage is now at the peak of its maturity, provided it has been stored correctly. Older wines can be delicate, so handle with care, as old corks and capsules may be fragile. We recommend standing the bottle upright for at least 24 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently for 1-2 hours to allow the wine to breathe and reveal its full aromatic spectrum, but be mindful not to over-decant, as very old wines can fade quickly. Serve at around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 This mature Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an excellent accompaniment to gently simmered dishes, game accompanied by fine wine sauces, or meat and vegetables cooked at low temperature with just the right amount of spices. It also pairs wonderfully with grilled lamb chops or rich, savory stews. For an Eastern pairing, consider slow-cooked beef brisket or a robust mushroom and duck hot pot.
🥂 Ideal for a special anniversary, a celebratory dinner with close friends, or a contemplative evening for a seasoned wine collector. It's a wine that tells a story of its origins and journey.
