Joseph Drouhin, Vosne Romanee Petits Monts 1er Cru, 2021
🏰 The 2021 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Petits Monts" from Maison Louis Latour (a comparable producer in the same appellation) is noted for its delicate profile, revealing mocha, cherry, clove, and grilled almond notes. The 2021 Burgundy vintage was challenging, marked by a very rainy season, April frosts, and mildew, which significantly reduced the crop. Despite this, some producers managed to craft harmonious wines with interesting aging potential. Expect a clear ruby red color with garnet highlights. The nose is intense and refined, offering notes of black cherry, ripe raspberry, and subtle floral nuances. On the palate, it's complex and balanced with silky tannins, persistent fruity flavors, and a delicate, fresh finish.
🍴 Excellent with aged rib steak, herb-crusted rack of lamb, Epoisses cheese, or a creamy Brillat-Savarin. Also pairs well with beef "Mironton", rabbit with chanterelles, venison with cranberries, and mature cheeses. For Asian cuisine, consider wok-fried vegetables or poultry.
🥂 Perfect for an important business dinner or a wedding anniversary celebration.
BACKGROUND
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's most important wine producers, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir, with a small portion being Chardonnay. Founded in Beaune in 1880, the domaine has expanded throughout the 20th Century to include vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, making everything from simple, village-level cuvées to highly priced grand cru and premier cru wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
