Frescobaldi, brunello di Montalcino Castelgiocondo Ripe Al Convento, 2012
🏰 **Frescobaldi's 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Castelgiocondo Ripe al Convento is a Brunello Riserva of powerful personality and exceptional aging ability, meticulously crafted from individual berry selection.** The 2012 vintage, despite a hot and dry summer, saw the vines sustained by healthy water levels in the Galestro sub-soil, leading to optimal and even grape maturation. This wine spends its first year in used French barriques to stabilize color and allow oxygenation, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak casks. It presents an intense and brilliant ruby red color. The nose is complex and intense, with alternating notes of red and black fruits (damson, blackcurrant), giving way to mineral notes of spice and incense. On the palate, Ripe al Convento is opulent, enveloping, harmonious, and rich, with elegant tannins balanced by excellent flavor and acidity, culminating in a persistent, lingering, and aromatic finish.
🍴 This structured Brunello is a superb companion for hearty Italian cuisine, particularly stews, slow-cooked meat dishes, and aged cheeses. It also pairs wonderfully with beef and venison.
🥂 An excellent choice for a significant celebration, a formal dinner, or a thoughtful gift for a serious wine collector. Decanting for 1-3 hours is highly recommended to allow its full complexity to unfold.
