🏰 Chateau Margaux's 2017 Pavillon Rouge is a beautifully balanced Margaux, offering 【finesse, weightless concentration, and the structure to develop further complexity with cellaring】, despite a challenging vintage marked by late spring frosts. This vintage, though variable across Bordeaux, saw top properties like Margaux largely unaffected, producing wines with elegance and approachability. It reveals a lovely open and expressive spicy nose of cinnamon and cloves, with a core of red currant jelly, kirsch, crushed blackberries, tobacco, and new leather. The medium-bodied palate boasts bright, crunchy red and black fruit layers, fine-grained, silky tannins, and a long, uplifting perfumed finish.
🍴 This elegant red Bordeaux is a superb partner for classic French cuisine, such as roasted duck breast with cherry sauce, pan-seared foie gras, or delicate lamb dishes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses and mushroom-based preparations.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a special occasion, or as a thoughtful gift for a Bordeaux enthusiast. Its approachable nature in youth also makes it enjoyable while waiting for more structured vintages to mature.
BACKGROUND
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most famous wine estates, located just east of Margaux itself in the Médoc. Along with Lafite, Latour and Haut-Brion, it was rated as a first growth in the original 1855 Bordeaux Classification of the Médoc. There are also 12 hectares (30 acres) of Sauvignon Blanc to make Margaux's white offering, Pavillon Blanc, which must be sold as Bordeaux AOP, not Margaux. The red wines are fermented in a mix of traditional wooden and stainless steel vats; the grand vin sees between 18 and 26 months aging in new oak barrels.
